The Eddie Torres Story

Can tragedy turn into triumph? With all the chaos going on in the world today, it's easy to respond with a resounding "No!"

But that's not so with the Eddie Torres Scholarship Fund. Many years ago Eddie wrote: "There is nothing more exciting than seeing a person give his life over to the Lord Jesus, and over half the world has not heard the story of the Savior. I am surrendering my life over to the Lord to do with it as He wills."

The fateful day was January 25, 1986. Eddie (then 24 years old) and his new bride Gabby (then 21) had just completed their final term of Bible college. Excited to enter the ministry in his home state of California, Eddie and Gabby wasted no time in heading back home.

Though that trip from Indiana was to mark the beginning of a fruitful ministry, it proved to be the end of three very young lives.   Shortly after they ventured on their quest, Eddie and Gabby (who was with child) were involved in a 28-car wreck while on an Arkansas highway, immediately ushered into the arms of their loving Savior, Jesus Christ.

Eddie's parents were the recipients of a life insurance policy left by Eddie.  After much prayer and consultation, the family decided to put the funds towards Eddie's dream - to help men entering the ministry.
