BIBLE CHURCH BUYS LA HABRA FACILITY
LA
HABRA, CALIFORNIA--First Fundamental Bible Church, a congregation of 700 to 800 people,
based in Monterey Park, CA., has purchased the facilities of Family of Faith Bible Church
at 217 N. Walnut Street. First Fundamental has a history of planting daughter
congregations in Southern California, according to Alex Montoya, First Fundamental’s
Senior Pastor. At this time, he observes, “we are one church in two
locations”—La Habra and Monterey Park.
Worship
is on Sundays, at 11:00 A.M., and includes children’s programs, nursery, kinder and
children’s church. The public is invited
to come and view the newly opened facilities, as well as to attend worship.
Sunday
School for adults and children starts at 9:45 A.M. Midweek
programs for adults, children and teens meet on Thursday evenings at 7:00. Programs
include Awana Clubs, International.
“We want to be big enough to meet people’s needs, loving enough to care, and pure enough to do it God’s way,” says Dr. Rolland Coburn, Pastor of Christian Education. “Bigness means big-hearted and includes serving the needs of families and individuals at risk, as well as those with a solid base in God’s Word. We want to provide a church home and family refuge for the many people of our multicultural, Southern California community.”
Realizing
the problem of land-lock in the suburbs, the congregation is providing a fundamental Bible
church for the local neighborhood and surrounding community. “The whole purpose of this endeavor is to
reach more people, especially those who live in the La Habra area,” comments Alex
Montoya. “As we work together, we can
reach out to others, serve people more effectively for Christ’s sake, and be a
[combined] church that will minister to our children’s children.”
First Fundamental, which holds membership in the IFCA, International—a network of independent churches—has grown under Pastor Alex Montoya’s leadership from forty members to its present size and has established thirteen independent branch churches during the last twenty years. Two church plants are still in process toward independence. Montoya serves as Associate Professor of Pastoral Ministries at The Master’s Seminary (Sun Valley, CA) and is founder of Seminario Biblico Fundamental (Fundamental Bible Seminary). He preaches in English weekly on the Word of Truth radio program, which airs daily Monday through Friday at 12:00 Noon on KTLW, FM radio 91.1.
